This weekend, inspired by PG at The Middle of Nowhere, I decided to stretch my creative wings and try out my hand at needle felting. If you have not seen her work, please check out her blog and see some of the wonderful creatures she makes. Here is an adorable polar bear she recently made:
So I went off, looking for information on the art, and found a wonderful place called Woolpets who makes kits and has a marvelous blog with some fantastic tutorials. I ordered a couple kits and spent this afternoon trying it out by making a little bunny for Easter. Her kit has enough materials for three rabbits, so I figured I could safely mess up at least one! I was trying for a bit of a Velveteen rabbit look. So, without further audo, meet Milo.
I learned this is much trickier than I expected, takes considerably longer than I thought it would, and it is very hard to get a smooth surface such as PG has. The less 'fuzzies', the more skilled the artist, I think. Oh and I also learned that felting needles are very sharp! I drew blood on at least 4 different occassions this afternoon! By the way, for those interested, Milo is about 3 inches tall. Finally, I am all the more impressed with PG's skills!
Great job on your first feltig. He came out beautiful!

Great job! I have only tried out felting once, but I keep meaning to get back to it.

Beautiful little bunny! I can't read The Velveteen Rabbit without "coming apart at the seams"! I think you have a knack for this craft.
